Health care merger and acquisition spending reached $66.5 billion in the third quarter of 2010. That is 47% more than what was seen in the last quarter — according to reports published by Irving Levin Associates Inc. The total spending amount shot up by 74 percent as compared to the third quarter of 2009, which was at $ 38.2 billion.

Gymboree Corp. [NASDAQ:GYMB] has been acquired by private equity group Blain Capital Partners LLC. The children’s clothes retailer announced this on Monday along with a figure of $1.8Billion. The definitive agreement between the two companies provides for the buyer to acquire all of Gymboree’s outstanding shares at a rate of $65.40 per share.
